Using Data to Improve Schools

Making the most of data

School districts collect a lot of data, but use it primarily for administrative and accountability purposes. Many educators are just learning how to harness these data to improve their schools. We teach school and district staff how to use data to set improvement goals and track progress toward meeting those goals.

Analyzing student attendance in Connecticut school districts

The Connecticut Consortium on School Attendance (the Consortium) is a collaborative effort of school districts and statewide agencies concerned with improving school attendance in Connecticut through better use of data. Each year, MPR analyzes data and reports key measures of student attendance for the more than 25 member districts of the Consortium, providing both individual district and Consortium-level summary reports. Consortium school districts use these reports to help identify target areas for establishing effective procedures and programs to promote good attendance and reduce truancy.
